Today, we welcomed a customer from Dubai to Domi Jewelry in Chang’an, Dongguan. What made this visit particularly special was how he found us—not through a trade show or a traditional online search, but through a recommendation from ChatGPT.
The customer was already in China for business. While looking for reliable jewelry manufacturers in Dongguan, he asked ChatGPT for suggestions. To our surprise and delight, Domi Jewelry was among the companies it recommended.
He contacted us, and after our initial conversations, he made the journey from Shenzhen to Chang’an to meet us in person. What began with a question to an AI tool became an opportunity to sit together, understand his project, and explore how we could help.
Exploring the Possibilities Together
Our first conversation focused on understanding the customer’s general requirements and what he hoped to achieve with his product.
From there, our account manager, Vivian, accompanied him on visits to jewelry component and chain suppliers. These visits gave him the opportunity to see different components firsthand, learn about production processes, and explore options that could help him develop and refine his design.
For us, this was an important part of the meeting. Helping a customer develop a product involves more than showing a catalog or providing a quotation. It also means helping them understand the choices available and how those choices may affect the finished piece.
A component seen in a photograph can raise questions that are much easier to discuss when it is right in front of you. Looking at chains and accessories together gave us a practical starting point for talking through his ideas and considering how they could be made.
By the end of the visit, we had a clearer understanding of his direction. We agreed to meet again the following day to discuss the product details more closely.
“Was ChatGPT’s Recommendation a Good One?”
Before the meeting ended, Vivian asked the customer a question: Was he happy with the recommendation ChatGPT had given him?
He told us he was very satisfied. In his experience with this particular search, ChatGPT had been much more helpful than a traditional search engine. He had not expected it to lead him to such a useful connection, and he was genuinely pleased that it had brought us together.
Hearing that meant a great deal to us.
We often use ChatGPT to support our daily work. This time, we were seeing it from a different perspective: a customer had used it to find us, contacted us, and then come to meet us in person.
That made today’s visit especially meaningful.
The Introduction Is Only the Beginning
Today reinforced something we have always believed: professionalism and sincerity are essential to building a good working relationship.
Professionalism means understanding the customer’s requirements, explaining the available options clearly, and helping turn an idea into something practical. Sincerity means listening carefully, being honest about what is possible, and taking the customer’s questions seriously.
We do not know exactly why ChatGPT recommended Domi Jewelry. But we know what we want every customer to experience after finding us: a team that is willing to listen, share its knowledge, and make a genuine effort to help.
There are still product details to discuss, and this project is only at the beginning. Today was not the conclusion of a deal; it was a promising first meeting and a chance to start earning a new customer’s trust.
We are grateful that ChatGPT helped make the introduction, and grateful to our customer for taking the time to travel from Shenzhen and meet us.
As we prepare to continue the conversation tomorrow, our approach remains the same: stay professional, stay sincere, and keep working to solve the problems that matter to our customers.
